One of the cooler things this month on the more technical side of twitter has been people’s solutions to the advent of code.
Watching all the different languages and the syntax’s to the problems has been pretty insightful. Taking the time to solve the problems from ‘working’ to ‘working well’ has been a good refresher to the problems I used to solve at Wells Fargo.
One of the bigger adjustments to moving to consulting is the pace. At a large corporation there are always more problems then you have time to solve. Learning which ones to focus on and which to pass on was a very needed skill. In consulting you take every task that you can be trusted with. The more you take the word of mouth effect is what gets you new work. What you become known to solve, or put differently, what clients need you to solve often isn’t what you expect.
